Thomas Goldring
Thomas Goldring is the Director of Research at the Georgia Policy Labs, a research center at Georgia State University. He conducts applied research in education policy and labor markets, using administrative data and quasi-experimental methods to generate actionable evidence for policymakers. His work examines the career trajectories of early care and education professionals, the effects of Career and Technical Education on student outcomes, and the impact of COVID-19 on student achievement. He has secured funding for his work from the Institute of Education Sciences, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Foundation for Child Development, and Arnold Ventures. GPL's research is grounded in long-standing partnerships with metro Atlanta school districts and Georgia state agencies, providing access to rich administrative data and ensuring findings are directly relevant to practice.
Thomas previously served as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Ford School's Education Policy Initiative. He received his Ph.D. in public policy and management from Carnegie Mellon University, where he was an Institute of Education Sciences predoctoral fellow. Before graduate school, Thomas earned a B.A. in economics from the University of Cambridge, spending a year at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
