Weed-out classes disproportionately discourage minority students - Thompson

Studies found that "weed-out classes," or classes that are often foundational for a certain educational track and have high enrollment, often disproportionately weed out minority students, according to Marissa Thompson, a postdoctoral fellow in education policy, who tracks the classes and their effects.

“What most surprised me was how consistent the findings are across institutions and across different types of STEM majors,” she said.
